Privacy notice

This notice explains what personal data this website collects, why, and what you can do about it. It is written to meet the UK General Data Protection Regulation (UK GDPR) and the Nigeria Data Protection Act 2023 (NDPA).
Who I am
Pen of Wonder Research is the research service of Pen of Wonder Consults, a registered business name in Nigeria, run by Wonderful Adebagbo in Ibadan, Oyo State. I am the data controller for the personal data described here. You can reach me at adebagbo.wonderfull@gmail.com.
What I collect
When you use the contact form: your name, email address, which of the three options describes you (researcher, editing firm or student), your message, and any file link you choose to include. The form also records the time it was sent.
When you message me on WhatsApp or by email: whatever you choose to send, including your phone number on WhatsApp.
When you visit the site: anonymous, aggregated statistics about page views (such as which pages are read, the referring site, browser and country), collected by Cloudflare Web Analytics. It does not use cookies or local storage and does not identify you.
This site sets no tracking or advertising cookies, so there is no cookie banner. If you use the light or dark switch, your choice is saved in your own browser’s storage so the site remembers it. It is never sent to me.
Why, and the lawful basis
- To reply to your enquiry and give you a quote or a free review. Lawful basis: steps taken at your request before entering into a contract, and my legitimate interest in answering enquiries.
- To provide the service if you go ahead. Lawful basis: performance of a contract.
- To keep basic records such as invoices. Lawful basis: legal obligation.
- To understand how the site is used, in aggregate. Lawful basis: legitimate interests. No individual is identified.
I don’t sell your data, use it for advertising, or add you to a mailing list.
Who processes it
- Formspree receives contact form messages and forwards them to my email. Formspree is based in the United States.
- Google (Gmail) hosts my email.
- WhatsApp (Meta), if you message me there.
- Cloudflare hosts this website and provides the anonymous analytics.
Some of these providers store data outside Nigeria and the UK, including in the United States. Where that happens, I rely on the safeguards these providers use for international transfers, such as standard contractual clauses.
How long I keep it
Formspree keeps form submissions for 30 days on the plan I use. Messages in my email and WhatsApp are kept for 12 months, then deleted, unless we have worked together, in which case I keep what I need for my records and tax for as long as the law requires.
Manuscripts and files you share with me are used only for your work and deleted when the work is finished, unless you ask me to keep them.
Your rights
You can ask me to:
- tell you what personal data I hold about you and give you a copy;
- correct anything that is wrong;
- delete your data;
- restrict or object to how I use it;
- give you your data in a portable format.
Email adebagbo.wonderfull@gmail.com to use any of these rights. I’ll reply within one month.
Complaints
If you’re unhappy with how I handle your data, please tell me first so I can put it right. You can also complain to:
- in the UK, the Information Commissioner’s Office (ICO): ico.org.uk/make-a-complaint;
- in Nigeria, the Nigeria Data Protection Commission (NDPC): ndpc.gov.ng.
